U.S. ENVOYS HEAD TO KYIV AFTER MOSCOW TALKS WITH PUTIN By GPC.NEWS Editorial Team September 06, 2026 WASHINGTON / KYIV / MOSCOW — U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to travel to Kyiv following lengthy talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, as Washington continues efforts to find a diplomatic path toward ending the war in Ukraine. The Moscow meeting lasted more than three hours and focused on possible conditions for negotiations. Russian officials described the discussions as useful, but there was no announcement of a breakthrough or agreement capable of bringing an immediate halt to the fighting. The next round of discussions in Kyiv will put renewed attention on Ukraine's position and on the security guarantees that would accompany any potential settlement. Territorial questions and the terms of a future ceasefire remain among the most difficult issues separating Moscow and Kyiv. Diplomatic activity comes as fighting continues on the ground and both Russia and Ukraine maintain long-range drone and missile operations. The continuing attacks underline the gap between intensified diplomatic contacts and conditions on the battlefield.
